June 5th - The Trinity

The Trinity is God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. They are each seperate being that also live in relationship with each other and they invite us to be part of that relationship! The Trinity is something that confuses many people, even adults, even priests! But we are ok in the mystery of the Trinity because we know that God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit love us and guide us.

Now, let's think about a pretzel...to be clear God is not a pretzel! But this pretzel is a good illustration of the Trinity, there are three seperate sections of this pretzel but they all work together to create one delicious treat!

SOFT HOMEMADE PRETZELS

As you make these pretzels at home, think about the Trinity. How do you feel when you think about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. What images come to mind? What Bible stories do you remember about these three parts of the Trinity.

May 29th - Pentecost

Can you find the story of Pentecost in your Bibles?

  • First look for the book of Acts which is found in the New Testament (back part of the Bible.)
  • Then look for the BIG number 2 and then looks for small numbers 1,2,3,4,5....all the way to 31!
  • Read the story, you can read it more then once if you would like.

Some questions to think about:

  • I wonder how this story makes you feel?
  • I wonder if you have ever experienced the guidance of the Holy Spirit in your life?
  • I wonder why Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit?

Paint or Draw out the story or how the story makes you feel. Here are some examples but I would encourage you to create your own!

May 15th - Moving for God!

Those who know me know that I love to exercise! I find that exercising helps me connect with God and also makes me thankful that I have a body that can move!

In the Book of Acts, Chapter 17 Verse 28 it says, "In him we live and move and have our being."

Here is a yoga video which will help you take a few moment to both move and breathe! Get on some comfy clothes, find a soft surface and get ready to move!

May 8th - The Way, The Truth and The Life

  • I wonder what troubles you have in your heart?
  • I wonder how you can trust God with those troubles?
  • I wonder what Jesus meant when he said I am the truth, the way and the life?
  • I wonder what Jesus meant when he said "to have seen me is to see my father."

Find a notebook, your journal or a piece of paper and some colours. Write or draw your answer to these questions!

May 1st - The Good Shepherd

Today's story is the Parable of the Good Shepherd.  Can you find the story in your Bible?

Look in the book of John chapter 10 verses 1-21

Read the story then learn how to draw a sheep and shepherd!

April 24th - Baking Bread

This week's Gospel story is the Road to Emmaus. The disciples recognize that the stranger in the story is Jesus when he breaks bread with them.

While the bread bakes, watch THIS VIDEO to hear this week's story. The Road to Emmaus story begins at 5:53 but I recommend watching the whole video!

April 17th - Mindfulness Colouring

I had so many plans in quarantine! I was going to organize my closet, learn a new language and maybe even write a book! But you know what I have been doing? Colouring!

I find that colouring helps me to feel calm. To forget about my worries and to even to pray! Below is a list of things you can pray for as you colour.

  • Purple: Pray for the world
  • Blue: Pray for your city
  • Green: Pray for your family
  • Red: Pray for your friends
  • Yellow: Pray for yourself
  • Orange: Pray for essential workers
  • Pink: Pray for whatever you want
  • Black/Brown: Stop praying and listen for God to speak to you

Print off a few of these colouring sheets and then take some time to pray and colour!

April 3rd - Create Bible Stories With Legos!

Materials Needed

  • Bins with Legos
  • Bible stories

This is a great activity for older and younger siblings to do together! Bring out the readings we have done throughout lent, choose a story, create the story and then share your creation with the rest of the family.

This activity can be done with other objects instead of Legos. Different craft materials could be used to create an art board, fabric banner, etc.

For an edible version, you could use snack items like graham crackers, cereal, fruit, vegetables, etc. Again, hand out Bible stories and create a response with the food items. Then of course you can eat your creation after you share!
