A group of eleven youth and young adults from our diocese had the opportunity to attend Sorrento Centre's Annual Winter Retreat over Family Day Long weekend in February. The group was made up of youth from St. Luke Cedar Hill, St. George's Cadboro Bay, Two Saints Ministry and St. John the Divine.
The theme for this year's retreat was "May the Force be with you". This theme allowed many opportunities for discussion, worship, and questions such as, How does the Holy Spirit lead us? What does it mean to be balanced? How do we find 'the force' in our own lives? We also had a lot of fun with Lego building, a giant snowball capture the flag, lots of board games, and a well attended and competitive trivia night.
For some of the attendees from the diocese this was their first time away from home and for many it was the furthest they had been from the Island. Watching the personal growth of many as they stepped out of their comfort zone, made new friends from all over BC, and experienced many new things (including communion for the 1st time for one) made the long six hour journey very worthwhile.
We want to extend our thanks to the Sorrento Center, the DYM, and BCYAYM for hosting our group and we look forward to coming back in the Spring to attend the Young Sojourners retreat.
