THIS WEEK’S PARISH NEWS – April 6 – April 13 (**New Items, *Revised Items)
Please stay for Coffee Time this Sunday after the 10 am service – Park on Synod Road for easy access via the side door of the hall.
**Thank you to Kathleen Patterson who made the delicious simnel cake for us which we enjoyed last Sunday during Coffee Time at the Shelbourne Community Kitchen.
Sacred Frontiers – A spiritual exploration/faith formation group for teens and their parents; adults considering baptism and/or confirmation; anyone who wants to be welcomed into St. Luke’s from another denomination; anyone who would like to formally renew their baptismal commitment; anyone who has faith questions; anyone who wants to deepen their faith outside of Sunday morning. The group is meeting weekly each Sunday and will end on Pentecost Sunday, June 8th, with a celebration of baptism and reaffirmation and welcome. The group will meet in the church from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. See more information at the News page.
**Palm/Passion Sunday Service Next Sunday, March 24th – Weather permitting, we will gather outside at St. Luke’s prior to the 10 am service and have a Palm Procession into the church.
**Holy Week Services – A Stations of the Cross service will be held on Wednesday, April 16th at 7:30 pm. The Maundy Thursday service on April 17th will also be at 7:30 pm. There will not be a morning service on Thursday, April 17th. The Good Friday service will be at 10 am on April 18th.
**Easter Vigil with Church of the Cross – Holy Saturday, April 19th at 7:30 pm at Church of the Cross. We are pleased that we are able to share the Easter Vigil service with Church of the Cross. We hope that many people from St. Luke’s will attend.
**Services on Easter Sunday (April 20th) will be at 8 am, 10 am, and 2:30 pm. The 8 am and 10 am services will be communion services. The 10 am service will feature special music by Koshi Thompson (trumpet), Erika Pryer (vocal solo), St. Luke’s Choristers (anthem), and St. Luke’s Bell Choir (Muriel Ali, conductor). The 2:30 pm Celebrate Easter Family Service will be a short, child-friendly service, followed by an Easter Egg hunt.
**Donations for Flowers for Easter – The Altar Guild invites your donations toward flowers to decorate the church for Easter. Donations can be made in memory of a loved one, in celebration of a special event, or as a thanks offering. Please contact Ann Séguin or the church office by Tuesday, April 15th to make a donation for flowers for Easter.
**Invitation/Services Card in Today’s Service Bulletin – Please use the invitation/services card tucked in today’s service bulletin to post on your fridge to remind you of all the services (in-person, livestreamed, and recorded) or to give to a friend or neighbour to invite them to the Holy Week and Easter Services. More cards are available on the table at the back of the church.
**Early Bird Registration is now open for this year’s Amazing Journey Day Camp, which will be held July 7th – 11th in the mornings, 9 am to noon at St. Luke’s. St. Luke's joins with Church of the Cross each summer for a week-long day camp hosted at one of the churches. If you have children, grandchildren, or friends with children ages 4 through 11, please consider registering them to participate in the day camp. Children born January 1, 2014 to June 30, 2021 are eligible to be campers. The registration form can found at the News page. Early Bird Registration Fees are 1st child - $50; 2nd child - $45; 3rd and additional child - $40. We will also be looking for Middle School students to be Leaders in Training and High School students to be Small Group Leaders. Questions? Save the Date for St. Luke’s Spring Fair – Saturday, April 26th, from 9 am – 2 pm. 9 am to 10 am will be for Early Bird shoppers, with an entry fee of $10. There will be no charge from 10 am – 2 pm. Now is the time to think of items you could make for the sale, such as craft items, jams and jellies, or baking which could be frozen. Thank you in advance for your help with this major fundraiser and community event. If you have questions, please talk to Carol Turnham.
Plants for the Spring Fair – With the spring around the corner, if you are dividing plants or planting seeds, please consider doing a few extras for our plant stall at the Spring Fair. We have extra pots if you need them, or if you need help with dividing, please call Noreen Saville.
**Save the Date for the International Pipe Organ Day: Saturday, April 26th, 1 - 3 pm: Drop by the church and try out (yes, that means you get to play) our 2-manual Casavant Pipe Organ to help Victoria become the Pipe Organ Capital of Canada by setting a record for the most people playing a pipe organ that day! Your friendly organist, Susanne, will share her knowledge and raise awareness of the pipe organ, its music and the Royal Canadian Organists training programs and scholarships. This is a FREE event, so bring your kids or grandkids to create some awesome sounds! Lutheran Church of the Cross is also participating in this event, so check out their 2-manual Spilker/Smalley pipe organ across the street.
**Rug/Latch Hooking Supplies Needed – Have you ever done rug/latch hooking? Do you have extra tools or cut pieces you no longer need? We are looking for spare supplies for our Summer Day Camp in July. If you, or anyone you know, has any you could donate, please talk to Tara Poilievre. Thank you.
**A Weekly Lenten Series – Lent is the season of 40 days leading up to Easter. This season is a time of intentional reflection when we make space in our lives for God to change our hearts in preparation for the new life that awaits us in the resurrection we celebrate at Easter. This year the Diocesan Office is sharing brief videos in a series called Staying Grounded in Times of Chaos. A new video is released every Wednesday between now and Holy Week. The first four videos can be found at the News page. In this week's video, Craig Hiebert speaks about the Ignatian Examen, the practice of prayerfully paying attention.
**The March and April 2025 issue of Faith Tides is now available online at the News page. Print copies are available in the church or from the parish office. Or please call the office (250-477-6741) to ask to have a copy delivered.
**Nominations are Open for the Order of the Diocese of British Columbia – The Order of the Diocese of British Columbia honours and gives special recognition to members of the diocese (and in the case of honourary awards, those not part of the diocese) who have given outstanding service over a significant period of time in their baptismal ministry. The deadline to submit completed forms is April 30th. More information can be found at the News page.
**The Restoration of Notre-Dame de Paris – A talk and visual presentation by Philippe Villeneuve, Lead Chief Architect of Notre-Dame de Paris, Tuesday, April 8th, 5:45 - 7:30 pm at Christ Church Cathedral, Victoria. This event is free and open to all in order to support the ongoing fundraising efforts for Notre-Dame Cathedral. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the Lead Chief Architect who oversaw the restoration of Notre-Dame de Paris. Philippe Villeneuve will present an insider’s view of the disaster that struck the almost 900-years old monument and its reconstruction. Stunning visuals will be presented.
