Dear Friends,
With yesterday’s violent bank robbery at the Bank of Montreal on Shelbourne Street, not far from St. Luke’s, I am certain we are all experiencing the impact of such a traumatic event. It feels like our little peaceful corner in Saanich has lost a degree of innocence, and it’s hard to believe something like this could happen so close to us. Both Joan and I heard the multiple gunshots and the sirens of many emergency vehicles rushing to the scene via Cedar Hill Cross Road. By now, most of you have seen on the television footage of the horrific events that took place.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the officers who were shot and their families, as well as the first responders, employees and customers at the BMO, and passers-by who witnessed the gunfire firsthand. We are deeply grateful for the heroic actions of our local police forces, and for the grave risks many officers took to keep us all safe.
We will be upholding the injured officers, their families, and colleagues in our prayers each Sunday for the time ahead, and I will be dropping off some chocolates and a card of thanks and care on behalf of all at St. Luke’s to the Saanich Police.
I’m available to anyone who might want to talk about yesterday’s events. Feel free to drop into the office or give me a call on the church phone.
Peace be with you and be safe.
