On Sunday, November 7th at 10:00 am, St. Luke's held a Service of Remembrance to recognize the 150 veterans who are buried or commemorated in St. Luke's Cemetery.
Parishioners and visitors who attended were very appreciative of this special service to honour their family members.
As the 150 names of the veterans were read out, the youth placed remembrance pots, containing rosemary and a Canadian flag on the veterans' graves.
A trumpeter played the Last Post, we observed two minutes of silence, and we sang O Canada. We were thankful that the rain held off until after the service.
Thanks to Gillian Klassen for sharing her photos from the service. Thank you to Saanich Tuf-Turf for providing the sand used in the remembrance pots, to Noreen Saville and Carol Turnham for providing the rosemary, and to Rick and Noreen Saville for preparing the remembrance pots and setting them up in the cemetery ready to distribute.
The Service of Remembrance booklet, the leaflet from the service listing the veterans' names, and the updated veterans' list can viewed or downloaded below. Note that one more veteran has been identified since the service so the most recently updated Veterans' List below includes 151 veterans.
