THIS WEEK’S PARISH NEWS – February 9 – February 16 (**New Items, *Revised Items)
Please stay for Coffee Time this Sunday after the 10 am service – Park on Synod Road for easy access via the side door of the hall. If you can help with the coffee set up in these first months of 2025, please let Barb Felsing know.
*Our February Reflections Service will be this afternoon February 9th at 4:30 pm. This Reflections will feature Victoria-based One Wheel Band, three seasoned musicians who bring a fresh acoustic approach to classic folk, roots, blues and jazz tunes along with original compositions. The three spokes of the One Wheel Band are: Burke Rosen (vocals and guitar), Diane Taylor (vocals and bass guitar), and Mike Sampson (vocals and guitar). Please join us for a unique and uplifting service of beautiful music and inspirational words, conducive to meditative reflection and spirituality.
*Amazing Journey Day Camp Planning Meeting – This afternoon 3 to 4 pm at St. Luke’s in the Sequoia Room in the hall. This year’s Day Camp will be July 7th to 11th at St. Luke’s. Help us pick a theme and be part of planning this year’s camp. Are you interested in assisting with music, telling stories, or leading crafts? It's not only the campers who have fun at the Day Camp, the teens and adult volunteers have a great time too! Come and find out what the Amazing Journey Day Camp is all about. This meeting is open to everyone including high school students.
Save the Dates for this Year’s Amazing Journey Day Camp – July 7th – 11th in the mornings, 9 am to noon. St. Luke's joins with Church of the Cross each summer for a week-long day camp hosted at one of the churches. This year's camp will be at St. Luke’s. If you have children, grandchildren, or friends with children ages 4 through 11, please consider reserving this week for them to participate in the day camp. Children born January 1, 2014 to June 30, 2021 are eligible to be campers. We will also be looking for Middle School students to be Leaders in Training and High School students to be Small Group Leaders. Questions? **The Men's Fellowship Group will meet on Wednesday, February 12th at the White Spot Restaurant on Quadra Street at 6 pm. If you plan to attend, please advise Harry Felsing.
**Building a Mountain of Love for the Shelbourne Community Kitchen – The youth of St. Luke’s are hosting a special fundraising event during the month of February in support of our local Shelbourne Community Kitchen. The youth want to build a mountain of non-perishable food in St. Luke’s Church, by the font, and call this a “Mountain of Love”. Please bring your non-perishable donations of food to the church or the hall. Also please invite your friends and neighbours to contribute. Handouts to pass out to friends and neighbours are available on the table at the back of the church.
Attic Treasures Vintage Market will be held in the hall from 10 am – 4 pm on Saturday, February 15th. The Market will feature a number of vendors renting space to sell their vintage items. St. Luke’s will also sell vintage clothing, accessories, jewellery, antiques, old collectible toys, home decor etc. Your donations can be brought to the hall basement on Friday, February 14th, or a pick up can be arranged with Carol Turnham. We will need help with set-up on the Friday and selling tickets to the public (admission tickets are $3) as well as selling items on the 15th. This year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), also known as our Annual Vestry Meeting, will be on Sunday, February 23rd. The in-person meeting will be held in the hall after the 10 am service. Please bring a bagged lunch. Tea, coffee, cookies, and sweets will be available. The meeting will include a review of reports from 2024, voting on the budget for 2025, and the election of Parish Council members, Synod delegates, and the Leadership Team members. There will not be an 8 am service that morning.
2025 Parish Council – If you would like to be on Parish Council for 2025, or would like to suggest a name of someone for a position on Council, please talk to Rick Saville, Carol Turnham, or Heather Simpson.

**An Update from the Compassionate Resource Warehouse is included on the News page. Donations from St. Luke’s were included in the container to Burundi and the sewing, knitting and craft supplies will be included in containers to other countries.

*Karren Stinson Bursary for Lutherans and Anglicans based in Western Canada – Application Deadline: March 31st, 2025 – The Karren Stinson Bursary Fund celebrates the life of a parish worker at Lutheran Church of the Cross, the late Karren Louise Stinson. The purpose of this Bursary Fund is to give financial assistance to Lutherans and Anglicans based in Western Canada who are currently involved in post-secondary education leading to a vocation of service. We invite applications for this year’s bursary of $1000. To apply for the 2025 Karren Stinson Bursary, please visit the News page and carefully follow the instructions given. The Bursary is scheduled to be awarded in the late spring of 2025.
