THIS WEEK’S PARISH NEWS – November 3 – November 10 (**New Items, *Revised Items)

Please stay for Coffee Time this Sunday after the 10 am service – Park on Synod Road for easy access via the side door of the hall.

Our next Fantastic Friday will be Friday, November 8th from 4:30 to 6:30 pm in St. Luke’s Hall. Invite your friends, neighbours, children, and grandchildren to join in the fun and find out why these Fridays are fantastic! For more information or to offer to help (always greatly appreciated!), please talk to Tara Poilievre, Barb Prescott, Sharon Hallsor, or Claire White.

*Next Sunday, November 10th will be a Service of Remembrance at 10 am.  The service will start in the church and then we will move outside to honour the more than 170 veterans in the cemetery.

**A Big Thank You to Yasser Youssef, owner of Fig Deli, 1551 Cedar Hill Cross Rd. who cooked and delivered our Celebration Sunday lunch. He provided a delicious meal for us and gave a great deal costwise! Please support Yasser and the Fig Deli in return for his neighbourly support of St. Luke’s.

**Special Thanks to the Setup and Kitchen Crew for the Celebration Sunday Lunch: 1st Cedar Hill Scouts, Alan and Genessa; Rovers, Jesse and Daniel Poilievre, and their leader, Jason Poilievre; as well as Jesse Charmley and Aanika White. They did the setup, serving, and cleanup so that the rest of us could relax and really celebrate without having to work in the kitchen.

**A Sincere Thank You from the Stewardship Team to Everyone Came Out for the Celebration Sunday Service and LunchIt was great to have the church so full! We are also very thankful for all the commitments that people made regarding their offerings for 2025.

**Givings Cards – Some extra copies of the Estimate of Givings Cards handed out last Sunday are on the table at the back of the church. If you didn’t fill one out last week, we would be very appreciative if you could fill out a card this week. If you wish to change the amount noted last week, please fill out another card and put the word Revised on it so that we know that this card replaces the one you filled out last week.

**Pre-Authorized Remittance Program (PAR) – A number of people noted on their givings cards that they would like to increase their PAR or start using PAR. To make a change or start using PAR, please send an e-mail to St. Luke’s Givings e-mail and include the following information as noted. To make a change to PAR, include your envelope #, the date you would like the change to happen (eg December 1, 2024 or January 1, 2025, etc.), and the amount of the change. The PAR comes out of one’s account on the 20th of the month but changes have to be sent in prior to the 10th of the month. To start using PAR, send an e-mail to St. Luke’s Givings e-mail and a form to enrol will be sent to you. The Treasurer will follow up with everyone who indicated that they would like to change their PAR amount or start PAR in case they have any questions.

St. Luke’s Book of SaintsDuring Sunday services in November, we will read the names of our saints who have passed away within the last 5 years. If you have names you would like added to the list, please add their name on the sheet at the back of the church.

**Thank You to the Volunteers who came out for the Cemetery Cleanup on Saturday, October 26th. Twelve volunteers came: some from St. Luke’s and others from the community. It was a beautiful day and we got a lot done! See the pictures at the News page.

*Donations in your Special Purpose Envelopes – Unfortunately, 2024 so far has been a very expensive year for our buildings. To date we have spent around $20,000 more on our buildings than we had budgeted for this part of the year. The expenses have been for safety reasons, not cosmetic repairs. Expenses have included replacing the rotten deck at South Island Centre ($3,600), replacing the stage floor - asbestos tiles were breaking ($4,100 less $2,000 paid by the Players), repairing the cottage bathroom ($5,000), putting windows in the Sunday School rooms in the church ($800), repairing the dishwasher ($1,800), new faucets for the kitchen and a new toilet for the preschool washroom ($800), repairing the heat pump at South Island ($4,900 less $2,000 paid by South Island Centre), and repainting the kitchen – the paint was flaking off ($3,200). If you are able to make an additional donation in your Special Purpose Envelope (above your regular donations) to help cover these unexpected expenses, your donation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your donations from September 1st to date, which now total $5,655.75.

The Compassionate Resource Warehouse Needs: Sewing notions (buttons, measuring tape, pins, needles, thread, trims, elastic, sewing scissors, Velcro, needle threaders, thimbles, small tins), crochet cotton, knitting wool, and embroidery supplies (embroidery kits, cloth, floss, hoops, large embroidery needles). If you have extras of these items, please bring them to the church or the church office. A basket for these items is at the back of the church. Their bins are empty of these items and they have requests for these supplies for their next couple of loads. Thank you for helping!

"Help Wanted” for Sunday Morning Coffee Times including baking, set up, and clean up. Volunteers have a choice to just set up or clean up or both. Baking is always welcome and thoroughly enjoyed at Coffee Time. Our Coffee Times after the 10 am services have become very popular and we can only continue if we have enough volunteers. If you can help, please email Heather Simpson, Rector’s Warden (hsimpson@stlukecedarhill.ca) or chat with her on Sunday. Dates are from now to the end of December.

*No Stone Left Alone – On Thursday, November 7th at 1:15 pm, Grade 6/7 students from Cedar Hill Middle School will visit St. Luke's Cemetery to place poppy rocks on veterans’ headstones for their observance of No Stone Left Alone. The aim of this event is to educate students about Canada’s rich history of service to country and to remember our fallen by placing the Legion symbol of remembrance, the poppy, at veterans' headstones. For learn more about the No Stone Left Alone program, visit the Events page.

**Our Next Reflections, our Sunday service at dusk, will be on Sunday, November 17th at 4:30 pm – This month’s Reflections will feature Sylvia McAvany, a Sound Weaver, playing Handpans and Singing Bowls. As a Sound Weaver, Sylvia offers meditation through sound to help the listener relax and reach an elevated mood. When paired with inspirational readings, we hope that this Reflections will bring a sense of light and peace to all who attend.

Save the Date for St. Luke’s Christmas Bazaar, Saturday November 23rd from 10 am – 2 pm. Now is the time to think of items you could make for the sale, such as craft items, jams and jellies, or baking which could be frozen. Thank you in advance for your help with this exciting fundraiser and community event.

Jewellery for the Christmas Bazaar – Now is a good time to sort through your jewellery to gather any pieces you are no longer wearing, which you could donate for the Christmas Bazaar. Time will be set aside the week before the Bazaar to accept items for sale. If you have any questions, please talk to Barb Prescott or Sandra Lindberg.

Extra Parking Space Needed - Seeking an extra parking space to park a classic car over the winter. Do you have an extra parking spot in your driveway or parking garage? Happy to make a donation to St. Luke’s in exchange for the use of a parking spot. Please contact Sean Tiernay via the Church Office.
