The Cedar Hill Garden (the garden at St. Luke’s behind South Island Centre) was installed just a month ago, but it's already overflowing with gorgeous veggies!
During the first work party on October 9th, the Garden Team from the Shelbourne Community Kitchen harvested a whopping 130 lbs of lettuce, kale and swiss chard! Growing produce for the Pantry Program and Food Skills Programs means that the Kitchen can offer organic, seasonal vegetables while creating hands-on learning opportunities and reducing food costs - all at the same time!
The Kitchen sends a great big thank you to St. Luke Cedar Hill for sharing a portion of their land to set up the garden, and to Topsoil Urban Agriculture for their leadership on the design and installation. The Kitchen also thanks their generous funders, the Provincial Employees Community Services Fund, Rotary Club Victoria-Harbourside, and VanCity Mt. Tolmie Branch.
