Spring in St. Luke's Cemetery
The snowdrops are out and it's spring in St. Luke's Cemetery. By this time of year, the Christmas arrangements still on the graves are looking out of place. If you placed an arrangement on a family grave before Christmas, could you please recover it by the beginning of March. Around the middle of March, the Cemetery Committee will remove any seasonal arrangements remaining on the graves. Save the Date for a Cemetery Tour at St. Luke'sFarmers, Florists and Gardeners - Sunday, May 4th at 2 pm The rich soil of the Shelbourne Valley enticed farmers, florists and gardeners to settle in the Cedar Hill and Gordon Head areas. St. Luke’s picturesque churchyard is the final resting place for many of these pioneer families. Yvonne Van Ruskenveld, Barb Prescott and several descendants of St. Luke’s families will join together for this tour. Springtime is the perfect setting for this tour, with the camas and other flowers in bloom. This tour is sponsored by the Old Cemeteries Society. The description above is from their 2025 tours listing. If you would like to speak about one of your family members resting in St. Luke's Cemetery who was a farmer, florist or gardener, please contact Barb by replying to this e-mail. We would love to have family members share their stories during this tour. |
