December News from St. Luke's Cemetery
It's time to share news from St. Luke's Cemetery. Several events and services took place in November to honour the veterans in St. Luke's Cemetery. This newsletter includes links to pictures from these events. I hope you enjoy seeing them! During the Advent and Christmas season, we welcome Christmas wreathes, greenery, and floral arrangements on your family graves. But also please keep in mind that by the end of February, we expect the spring flowers to be out and we suggest that Christmas arrangements be removed by the end of that month or before, if possible. |
Pictures from No Stone Left Alone
On Thursday, November 7th, Grade 6/7 students from Cedar Hill Middle School visited St. Luke's Cemetery to place poppy rocks on veterans' markers for their observance of No Stone Left Alone. The aim of this event is to educate students about Canada’s rich history of service to country and to remember our fallen by placing the Legion symbol of remembrance, the poppy, at veterans' headstones. Remembrance Pots on the Veterans' Graves
Due to inclement weather, this year's Service of Remembrance was held inside the church instead of gathering in the cemetery for part of the service. After the service, the remembrance pots were placed on the veterans' graves. The remembrance pots were assembled at the Fantastic Friday on November 8th. See pictures HERE of the pots being assembled. The names of the 183 veterans were read during the service. The Service of Remembrance booklet, the leaflet from the service listing the veterans' names, and the updated veterans' list can viewed or downloaded from the link below. If you know of other veterans, whose names should be added to our list, please reply to this e-mail and let me know. A video of the Service of Remembrance is also available to view from the link below. For more infomation visit: http://stlukesvictoria.ca/news/remembrance-pots-on-the-veterans-graves

Longest Night ServiceTomorrow, Sunday, December 22nd - 7 pm For those of you living in the Victoria area, this e-mail is also an invitation to the Longest Night Service at St. Luke's at 7 pm tomorrow, Sunday, December 22nd. You are invited to take some time out before Christmas for this special quiet, reflective prayer service and to light a candle for hope and remembrance of a person who was special in your life. This could be a time to honour and remember your family members or friends who reside in St. Luke's Cemetery, or other family members or friends who have passed but live on in your memories. |
