More News from St. Luke's Cemetery and Christmas Decorations Update
It's again time to share some news from St. Luke's Cemetery. While I don't usually send out a Cemetery Newsletter two months in a row, November was a busy month in St. Luke's Cemetery. A number of events and services took place to honour the veterans in St. Luke's Cemetery and I wanted to share the pictures with you. I hope you enjoy seeing them! During the Advent and Christmas season, we welcome Christmas wreathes, greenery, and floral arrangements on your family graves. But also please keep in mind that by the end of February, we expect the spring flowers to be out and we suggest that Christmas arrangements be removed by the end of that month or before, if possible. |
No Stone Left Alone Ceremonies in St. Luke's Cemetery
On November 4th, over 400 students from Cedar Hill Middle School visited St. Luke's Cemetery to take part in two back-to-back No Stone Left Alone ceremonies to recognize veterans in St. Luke's Cemetery. St. Luke's 2021 Service of Remembrance
On Sunday, November 7th at 10:00 am, St. Luke's held a Service of Remembrance to recognize the 150 veterans who are buried or commemorated in St. Luke's Cemetery. As the names of the veterans were read out, the youth placed remembrance pots, containing rosemary and a Canadian flag on the veterans' graves. The service booklet and the list of the names of the veterans are included at the link. If you know of other veterans, whose names should be added to our list, please reply to this e-mail and let me know. Thank You to the Scouts and Venturers for Their Cleanup on Remembrance Day
A big thank you to the 5th Tsartlip Scouts and Venturers, and the 1st Cedar Hill Scouts and Venturers for all their work raking leaves and cleaning up the cemetery on Remembrance Day. The cemetery looks great now! As well as tidying the cemetery, the Scouts held a short ceremony at 11 am, and then listened to a few stories of veterans, whose remains are interred in St. Luke's graveyard. Repairs to the Rock Walls in the Cemetery Were Completed Last Month
The crumbling rock wall by the oak tree has been replaced and the leaning wall in the compost area was taken down. The cost for these repairs was just under $10,000. Thanks to Christopher Barclay and his crew for the excellent work they did repairing the wall and deconstructing the leaning wall. Thank you as well to those who have made recent contributions to this repair and to the ongoing maintenance of the cemetery. Donations as of December 9th, total $5,514.00, more than half way to paying the cost of the rock wall repairs. See pictures of the wall before it was repaired at this link. St. Luke's Cemetery Newsletters
This e-mail list was compiled from contact information St. Luke’s Cemetery Committee has regarding descendants, family members, and friends of people buried in St. Luke’s Cemetery. Please feel free to pass along this e-mail to friends and relatives who may be interested in this information. Newsletters and information about special events regarding the cemetery are sent out several times a year. If you do not wish to be on this list to receive these occasional updates, please reply to this e-mail and let me know and I will take you off the list. We also encourage you to visit the Cemetery pages of St. Luke's website. Click on the Read More button below. The Cemetery section at the website includes links to a database of veterans buried in St. Luke's Cemetery, stories of the people resting in the cemetery, and a database with names and plot locations. The database of veterans and the larger cemetery database have both been updated recently. Please let me know if you notice information, which needs adding or correcting.
