News from St. Luke's Cemetery
It's time to share some news from St. Luke's Cemetery. A number of projects have been completed over the last few months, while some others are planned. Information about some of the completed projects is included below. Upcoming plans include repairs to the stone walls in the cemetery and the installation of a few more row markers. We hope that the work to the repair the walls will take place over the summer or in the fall. |
It's Spring in St. Luke's Cemetery
By this time of year, the Christmas arrangements still on the graves are looking out of place. If you placed an arrangement on a family grave before Christmas, could you please recover it before the middle of March. After the middle of March, the Cemetery Committee will remove any seasonal arrangements remaining on the graves. Spring is a lovely time to visit the cemetery for a physically-distanced walk. The snowdrops on the hillside are almost finished but the daffodils and aubrieta are starting to bloom. |
Two New Last Post Markers Installed
Two of the three Last Post Markers we applied for were installed on December 1st. The markers were for Jack Halton and Constance Thompson. Thanks to Gillian Klassen for all her work applying for these markers. The Unmarked Grave Program of the Last Post Fund of Veterans Affairs provides military markers for unmarked veterans’ graves. Cemeteries and individuals can apply to this fund for a marker if a veteran’s grave is unmarked. For more infomation visit: http://stlukesvictoria.ca/news/two-new-last-post-markers-installed

The Mystery Writing Box
In 2015, Laura Lang of Esquimalt was sorting through her sister’s possessions after her death when she found an old wooden box. It appeared to be a writing box, lined with purple velvet. It included a number of old photographs and some hidden compartments. Read the fascinating story of this "Mystery Writing Box" and its connections to people buried in St. Luke's Cemetery.
